SONG will consist of multiple nodes (sites) around the world. For these nodes to work as a single instrument a central control unit must be located somewhere.
Since SONG is Danish led and the majority of the underlying infrastructure (network, databases, web pages etc) is located in Aarhus the decision was made to
make Aarhus University the control center of SONG.
The control center consists of a setup of several servers with datebases which can handle exactly what is needed for a multi node network as SONG.
Observation requests can be written into a database and it is set up to copy these requests to the nodes in the network. When a job is done the node from where
the observations were carried out is reported back to the central node (in Aarhus). In that way the central node always knows what has been done one the sites
in the network and the database is a tool to keep track of all the observations.
At the central node in Aarhus we will keep an archive of the collected data.
