This document describes the organization formed in order to make FIES an operating instrument as quickly and efficiently as possible assuring a high quality spectrograph will be the result with a pleasant user interface.

The whole process is to be supervised by a PI Team. The composition of the team is suggested here as

The responsabilities of the PI team is to define and fix design specification where needed, to 'godkende' construction projects and test procedures and to organize commisioning of the complete instrument. The PI team also forms subteams and allocate work packages for these teams.

It is proposed to have the following work packages and subteams at the present stage:

1. Software Team

Team members: Søren Frandsen, Jakob Clasen, John Telting, Peter Sørensen, Johan Holmberg, Jens Viggo Clausen, Jens Klougart and Alexandru Csete.

During a meeting at La Palma a more detailed job description was implemented, which you will find under the status link below. In addition an overall plan for the operation of all NOT instruments was suggested. Workplan:

• Define Graphical User Interface to FIES (SF, JC, PS, AC)
• Write Interface to Telescope Control System (JC, SF)
• Write interface to CCD program BIAS (SF, JC)
• Write interface to present FIES code (SF, AC)
• Write interface to Standby camera (JC, PS)
• A NOT provided sequencer, form filling, general user interface (PS, JC, JT)
• Define and implement a pipeline reduction (JT, JH, JVC )
• Define and implement an exposure time calculator and other preobservation tools for observers (JT, PS, SF)
• Define and write quick look software (JT, JC, PS)

Status

2. CCD camera

Team Members: Preben Nørregaard, Anton Norup Sørensen, John E. Andersen, Bo Lindberg and Jens Klougart

Workplan:

• Provide drawings of FIES camera backend (JEA)
• Order chip (PN)
• Design and build camera box (CUO)
• Install CCD and test it
• Mount camera on spectrograph
• Provide or modify a controller including a compatible version of BIAS

3. Fiber - ADC - Adaptor

• Define parameters (number of fibers etc.)
• Design Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector
• Build mechancis at IFA
• Build fiber units at Lens-Tech

4. New Building - Thermal Control
